About

STAY LEVELS

  • What are the different types of physical level?
    • Level 1 / Initiation: I'm discovering a new activity.
No special training or physical condition is required for this level, provided you are in good health. Would you like to try packraft and learn the basics of this new activity in a natural, relaxing setting without having to exert yourself?
Level 2 / Dynamic: I venture off the beaten track.
You're dynamic and enjoy sport in general. You are capable of making a physical effort for up to 5-6 hours a day. You want to discover places in an unusual way, to get away from the tourist areas and the déjà vu, all in a natural setting.
    • Level 3 / Committed: I'm embarking on an extraordinary expedition!
Reserved for good sportsmen and women who regularly take part in endurance sports (at least 2 times a week). You should be able to put in a physical effort of up to 7-8 hours a day. You're used to outdoor sports, but you're not self-sufficient or specialised. Sleeping in bivouacs in isolated and exceptional places is something that thrills you (you'll be asked to help set up camp). Set off in search of nature and adventure to recharge your batteries in unique places that are difficult to access. The weather can sometimes be unpredictable, but that doesn't scare you. Are you looking for an intense, challenging experience that will test your limits and take you out of your comfort zone?
    • Level 4 / Expert: I'm exploring undiscovered territory!
Reserved for experienced sportsmen and women who do intense endurance sports (more than 3 times a week). You can carry up to 20kg and be physically active for up to 12 hours a day. Adventurers accustomed to outdoor expeditions, with strong motivation and a mind of steel. Progress in an isolated environment that can be very demanding in extreme weather conditions. Geographical isolation means that rescue resources are limited. These are ambitious projects, and achieving the objective and ensuring the safety of the group depend on the commitment of each individual. A spirit of solidarity is essential!
  • What are the different levels of technical difficulty?
    • Level 1: I'm ‘The Beginner!’
      I've never touched a paddle.
      Level 2 : I am ‘The Intermediate!’.
I know how to go straight, turn, stop and generally control my kayak or packraft. I've already navigated a class 2 river (small current, waves).
Level 3: I'm ‘The confirmed one’.
I can navigate with ease in class 2/3. I have full control of my boat in this class of river. I can help set up a collective safety system on a technical passage.
Level 4: I am ‘The expert’.
I can navigate a class 3/4 river. I know how to eskimo roll, how to read a river and how to set up a safety system for a technical passage.
  • What is the difference between physical and technical level?

The technical level concerns your level of packraft navigation. For some expeditions, the rivers can be very rough and you will need to know how to paddle before venturing out on such an expedition. The physical level concerns your fitness and physical condition for an expedition, both in terms of your general sporting ability and your mental state and comfort. In any case, don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We have personally explored and designed all our routes and are here to guide you.

  • Do you need to know how to swim?

Knowing how to swim is compulsory to take part in our holidays.

about

equipment and materials

  • What technical equipment is provided?

For each trip, we provide a packraft, paddle, lifejacket, waterproof bag and carry bag. Depending on the trip chosen, a neoprene wetsuit and helmet may also be included.

For guided micro-adventures, a tent is provided for bivouacs. However, sleeping bags and mattresses are not provided.

  • Will my shoes go in the water?

Yes, your shoes will get wet because they'll go in the water. For safety reasons, shoes must be worn on all our adventures.

For micro-adventures, we recommend that you have a spare pair of shoes for the evening.

  • What type of footwear is required?

We recommend a pair of trainers with suitable soles, such as sports shoes. Water shoes are not accepted for white-water adventures, as our adventurers systematically lose them in the river with the current.

  • Is it possible to hire additional equipment?

For free-roaming adventures, we offer camping and cooking equipment for hire. Please make your request as soon as possible, as our stock is limited.

For mattresses and sleeping bags, we have a rental partner.

  • Can I bring my own packraft and navigation equipment?

You are welcome to bring your own equipment, provided it is suitable for your stay. Please contact us beforehand to confirm this. Please note, however, that lifejackets and helmets must be provided by Blue Secret for safety and liability reasons. No discount will be applied for the use of your own equipment.

  • Where can I find the list of equipment I need?

The equipment list is available on the page for each adventure. Once you have booked, a technical sheet detailing the equipment required will be sent to you by email.

  • Is all the listed equipment mandatory?

Yes, the mentioned equipment has been selected based on our experiences during scouting. It is essential to bring all the indicated gear.

about

Regarding the organization of accommodation, catering, and transportation for micro-adventures

  • How is the catering organized?

Meals are included in certain trips and come from local producers. We prioritize short supply chains. Lunches are usually in the form of picnics, and dinners are shared as a group.

  • What types of accommodations are offered?

We offer different types of accommodations depending on the trip: bivouac, camping, or mountain hut. There is no luxury here; the quality lies in simplicity. The details are specified in each technical sheet. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the type of accommodation, except in the case of a private trip.

  • How is the accommodation organized?

For guided adventures, if the nights are spent in bivouacs or campsites, tents will be provided. They are designed for two people, so you will need to share your tent. If you prefer to have a tent to yourself, no problem—just specify it when you register and pay the indicated supplement.Pour les refuges, les participants dorment dans des dortoirs.

  • What type of food is offered?

Lunches are almost exclusively picnic-style. Depending on the adventure, dinners may be cooked at the bivouac or served in campsites, mountain huts, or restaurants. In the case of bivouacs, everyone's participation is, of course, welcome.

  • Is transportation included in the trip price?

Transportation during the trip is included. However, getting to the adventure's starting point is at your own expense.

about

guided adventures

  • How can I find out the exact departure dates?

Departure dates are scheduled in advance and available on the adventure page. New dates may be added depending on demand, so feel free to ask us. We invite you to stay informed through our social media and by subscribing to our newsletter

  • Is it possible to know the number of remaining available spots?

You can see the number of remaining spots when selecting your trip date during the booking process. Currently, the number of adventures is limited, so we recommend booking as soon as possible

  • What is the group size for a trip?

The group size varies depending on the adventure. Generally, groups consist of 4 to 8 people. For safety reasons, some trips are limited to 6 participants. You can find a 'group size' section on each trip page for more details.

  • What happens in case of bad weather?

Safety is our top priority. Even if the weather conditions are not ideal (rain, wind, clouds), the adventure will continue as long as participants' safety is not compromised. If the weather affects the route, an alternative itinerary may be proposed by the guide to ensure the group's safety. If no alternative is possible, the trip or activity will be canceled

  • If the water levels are too high or too low, what happens?
    • If the water levels are not suitable, three options are considered:

      • Modification of the itinerary or river
      • Rescheduling of the trip
      • Cancellation of the trip

In the case of rescheduling or cancellation, you can choose between a voucher or a refund. The voucher is valid for 12 months on all trips offered by Blue Secret. If the voucher is not used within this period, a refund will be issued afterward.

Vouchers are not nominative, meaning they can be transferred to another person, provided they also meet all the physical and technical requirements of the trip.

  • What is the weight of the backpack?

Your backpack will generally contain your packraft, navigation equipment, picnic, and some spare clothes, weighing up to approximately 10 kg.

  • Where do the safety training courses take place?

Most 2- or 3-day safety training courses take place at Île de la Serre, near Lyon. This site offers optimal conditions for training. However, the location may vary depending on demand.

For one-day courses, they can take place in the Verdon or in Annecy

  • What is the difference between a training course and a guided trip?

One-day outings are designed to help you discover a destination, such as the Verdon Canyon or the Gorges du Fier, without focusing primarily on technical instruction. Training courses, on the other hand, emphasize technique and safety, with a particular focus on learning and improving packrafting skills.

About

self-guided adventures

  • Is prior packrafting experience required to join a trip?

No, prior packrafting experience is not required. Our self-guided trips are designed to introduce you to this sport and outdoor adventure. A member of our team will be there at the beginning of the trip to explain everything you need to know.

  • Do you need to be very athletic to participate?

Our trips are open to a wide audience eager to discover this new activity. The required technical level is very accessible. Only the physical demand may vary depending on the chosen itinerary.

  • How do you inflate a packraft?

The packraft is inflated using an inflation bag, which allows air to be transferred into the boat. This process needs to be repeated several times and takes about ten minutes. No worries—a Blue Secret team member will be present during the briefing to provide all necessary instructions and demonstrate the process.

  • How does a self-guided trip work?

At the beginning of your adventure, you will meet with a member of our team for a briefing and the distribution of the necessary equipment. They will present the planned itinerary, provide you with your road book, and, if applicable, your meals. A practical demonstration on how to use the packraft will be given to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the adventure.

Additionally, to lighten your load as much as possible, your overnight luggage will be transported to the bivouac or campsite location, allowing you to travel light.

Finally, at the end of the adventure, a team member will be present to check and collect the equipment.

  • What is the weight of the backpack?

Generally, your backpack will include your packraft, navigation equipment, picnic, and a few spare clothes, with a total maximum weight of approximately 10 kg

  • Do we have to join other groups on the trips?

The goal of a self-guided trip is to allow you to experience an outdoor adventure independently while benefiting from organized logistics and assistance if needed. For safety reasons, a minimum of two people is required to participate. You can then enjoy your trip with whomever you choose and at your own pace.

  • How can I find out the exact departure dates?

Departure dates are scheduled in advance and available on the trip page. New dates may be added depending on demand. We encourage you to contact us and stay informed through our social media and by subscribing to our newsletter.

  • What is the minimum number of people required for a self-guided trip?

For safety reasons, it is essential to have at least two people to join a self-guided trip.

  • Do I have to strictly follow the road book?

Although the road book does not necessarily have to be followed to the letter, we strongly recommend sticking to it for safety reasons. If an incident occurs outside the planned routes, Blue Secret disclaims any responsibility, and additional assistance fees may apply.

  • What should I do in case of a technical issue during the trip?

In case of an issue, a member of the Blue Secret team will be available to assist you. You will meet them at the start of the trip and can contact them in case of an emergency. For life-threatening emergencies, dial 112 directly.

  • What should I do if my packraft is damaged?

A repair kit will be provided to you at the start of the trip. Depending on the extent of the damage, you may be able to make a repair on-site and continue your adventure. In case of an emergency, our team will be available to assist you.

  • What happens in case of bad weather?

Safety is our top priority. Even if the weather conditions are not ideal (rain, wind, clouds), the trip will go ahead as long as participants' safety is not compromised. If the weather affects the route, the trip will be canceled.

  • What happens if the water levels are too high or too low?

In case of unacceptable water levels, three options are considered:

    • Modification of the itinerary or river
    • Rescheduling of the trip
    • Cancellation of the trip

In the case of rescheduling or cancellation, you can receive a voucher or a refund. The voucher is valid for 12 months on all trips offered by Blue Secret. If the voucher is not used, a refund will be issued after this period.
*Vouchers are not nominative, meaning the person of your choice can use them, but only if that participant also meets all the physical and technical requirements of the trip.

  • What is the minimum number of participants for day trips?

For adventures taking place in Annecy, all day trips are confirmed from May to September (except in case of weather issues).

In general, please note that our adventures have a booking rate between 50% and 100%

  • When and how will I know if my multi-day adventure is confirmed?

Due to a lack of participants, the multi-day adventure can be canceled at any time, but no later than 7 days before departure. After this period, the adventure will take place as planned. In any case, you will be regularly informed by email and phone about the status of your trip's availability.

  • What happens if the trip is canceled due to a lack of participants?
