Details of the packraft adventure

Day 1:

Meet at 11:00 AM at Annecy train station. We will have a welcome coffee, a chance to get to know each other and go over the detailed itinerary.

We will pick up our (muscle-powered) bikes to start our adventure. After securing our navigation equipment on the bikes, we will ride 40 kilometers through fields, forests, and quiet country roads to reach the Fier Gorge. After a picnic, we will inflate our packrafts, strap the bikes onto them, and head toward the small village of Chanaz. We will navigate briefly on the Fier river and then into the wild arms of the Rhône, a largely canalized but still powerful part of the river.

We will spend the night camping in the village of Chanaz.

Day 2:

We start the day with a visit to the village, known as the “Little Venice of Savoie,” which is labeled as a “Petites Cités de Caractère.” We then hop on our bikes for a few kilometers to the embarkation point in the middle of the Savières canal. After an hour of paddling, we will arrive at the largest natural lake in France, Lake Bourget. The arrival into this magnificent lake, surrounded by reeds, is absolutely stunning. We will pass through the reed beds and continue navigating along the wild coast to our bivouac spot. A second night in nature by the water, the perfect escape.

Day 3:

After breaking camp, we head out for our final stretch by packraft, heading toward the end of the lake. The 10 kilometers of navigation are interrupted by a visit to the Royal Abbey of Hautecombe, a place rich in history. We stop at small, inaccessible coves for a lunch break, the perfect opportunity for a peaceful swim.
After passing the wild coastline, we continue with a 15 km bike ride along the lake to Aix-les-Bains train station. After a brief bike tour of this charming town, we take the train back to Annecy.
The loop is completed.

End of the adventure.
