Moroccan Atlas - Marrakech

Group size: 4 to 8 people

Date: from Saturday 17 May to Friday 23 May 2025

The aim of this trip is to cross the Moroccan Atlas from north to south. The packraft adventure links the magnificent Aït Bougmez valley to the Valley of the Roses, where the change of scenery is complete from the moment we arrive.

For 7 days, we’ll be exploring these valleys by river, in packraft. The only link between these two valleys is a little-used canyon, inaccessible by car. Navigating from village to village offers us a unique immersion in an incredible landscape, where steep mountains and green valleys follow one another.

Each day is a combination of hiking, packraft descents and authentic encounters with the villagers. These exchanges allow us to discover local traditions and cultures.

Between unspoilt nature and local heritage, this packraft trip offers an exceptional adventure, a real return to basics for an authentic and unforgettable experience.

  • A mix of hiking, packraft sailing and cultural visits

  • Discover two emblematic valleys: Aït Bougmez and the Valley of the Roses

  • Small groups to limit our impact and facilitate discussion

  • Supervised by a qualified French guide who knows the region inside out

  • New, quality packrafts for maximum comfort and safety

In the heart of the Moroccan Atlas

Details of the Packraft Adventure

Day 1:
Arrival in Marrakech and private transfer to our eco-lodge, nestled in the heart of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. We spend our first evening in this peaceful setting, perfect for recovering from the journey.

Day 2:
Early departure to meet our team of muleteers, who will accompany us throughout the adventure. After loading our navigation equipment onto the mules, we begin a hike into the remote part of the Aït Bougmez Valley. We pass through numerous small villages, following the river—which is not yet navigable—for approximately 15 km until we reach our guesthouse for the night, located a few kilometers from the packraft departure point.

Overnight stay with a local host.

Days 3 to 6:
The third day starts with a short walk to the entrance of the canyon. Depending on the water level, different embarkation points are possible for the packrafting descent.

The adventure continues along the river, with sections of rapids that we may cross on foot, depending on their technical difficulty and depth. Each evening, we stop in traditional villages nestled in the heart of the valleys, where we stay with local hosts and share unique moments, facilitated by our French-speaking muleteers.

After four days of exploration, alternating between navigation and canyon hiking, we reach our final destination: the Valley of Roses and Kalaat M’Gouna, where our adventure comes to an end.

Day 7:
We meet our taxi for the journey to Ouarzazate, where we spend our last evening together. The next day, we return to Marrakech, marking the end of the trip.

Do you have any questions about your trip to the Moroccan Atlas ?

  • Can I choose between a single or a double packraft?

For this adventure, we only use single packrafts.

  • What are the different types of physical level?
    • Level 1 / Introduction: Discovering a New Activity
No specific training or physical condition is required for this level, as long as you are in good health. Do you want to try packrafting and learn the basics of this new activity in a natural and relaxing environment, without needing to put in much physical effort?

    • Level 2 / Dynamic: Venturing Off the Beaten Path
You are active and generally enjoy sports. You are capable of sustained physical effort for up to 5-6 hours per day. You want to explore unique locations, away from tourist areas and well-trodden paths, all while being immersed in nature.

    • Level 3 / Committed: Embarking on an Extraordinary Expedition!
Reserved for fit individuals who regularly practice endurance sports (at least twice a week). You can sustain physical effort for up to 7-8 hours per day. While you are experienced in outdoor sports, you may not necessarily be autonomous or specialized. Sleeping in bivouacs in remote and exceptional locations excites you (help with setting up camp will be required). You seek nature and adventure to recharge in unique, hard-to-reach places. Weather conditions may be unpredictable, but that doesn't scare you. You want to experience an intense adventure, one that may challenge your limits and push you out of your comfort zone.

    • Level 4 / Expert: Exploring Uncharted Lands!
Reserved for experienced athletes who train intensely in endurance sports (more than three times a week). You may need to carry up to 20 kg, and physical activity can last up to 12 hours per day. This level is for seasoned outdoor adventurers with strong motivation and mental resilience. You will progress through remote environments that can be highly demanding if extreme weather conditions arise. The geographic isolation means that rescue options are limited. These are ambitious expeditions where achieving the goal and ensuring the group's safety depend on everyone’s commitment. A strong team spirit is essential!

  • Wath are the different types of technical level ?
    • Level 1: I am "The Beginner!"
I have never held a paddle before.

    • Level 2: I am "The Intermediate!"
I can paddle straight, turn, stop, and generally control my kayak or packraft. I have already paddled on a Class 2 river (mild current, small waves).

    • Level 3: I am "The Advanced Paddler!"
I navigate confidently on Class 2/3 rivers. I fully control my boat in this river class. I can assist in setting up group safety for a technical section.

    • Level 4: I am "The Expert!"
I navigate on Class 3/4 rivers. I can roll my boat, read a river, and set up safety for a technical section.

  • Do you need to know how to swim ?

Being able to swim is an absolutely mandatory prerequisite.

  • Does the team speak a foreign language?

Most of our guides speak English, and some also speak Spanish. All English speakers or those who understand English well enough to follow safety instructions are welcome on our adventures.

For this trip to Morocco, we will be traveling with a French-speaking muleteer who can provide translation if needed.

  • Is it possible to privatise the group?

Yes, it is absolutely possible to book a private adventure. The price will be at least equivalent to the participation of six people. For a tailor-made experience, feel free to call our team—they will be happy to assist you.

  • Will my shoes go in the water?

Yes, the shoes will go in the water. It is important to note that for safety reasons, shoes are mandatory during all our adventures.

  • What type of shoes do I need?

Download the technical sheet; all the necessary equipment is clearly detailed there.

  • What is the group size for this trip?

The group size varies depending on the adventures. But generally, groups consist of between 4 and 8 people.

  • What do we do in case of bad weather?

Safety is our top priority! Even if the weather isn't ideal (rain, wind, clouds, etc.), the adventure will continue as long as the participants' safety is not at risk. If the weather conditions are unfavorable along the route, the guide may set up an alternative itinerary to ensure the group's safety.
