Blue Secret

The expedition in the Fier Gorges

Details of the packraft adventure

The adventure starts at Annecy train station, where we meet the entire team. After a welcome coffee, we head towards Thônes, upstream from the majestic Gorges du Fier. Depending on the water level, different starting points are available to us.

Once we arrive, detailed explanations on how to use the packraft and the specifics of the river are provided. We then begin the descent of the Fier Valley, navigating through the rapids until we reach our camping site by the river. We quickly pass through the first gorges, where beautiful rapids await us.

The evening is dedicated to relaxation under a starry sky, with a convivial meal and moments of sharing around a campfire.

The next day, we leave the camp to continue the descent of the Fier towards the outskirts of Annecy, crossing more stunning gorges. A short shuttle ride then takes us to another section of the Fier, downstream from the famous Gorges du Fier, which are very dangerous (navigation there is prohibited).

We embark to explore this new section of the river. At the end of the journey, a shuttle awaits to take us back by vehicle or train to Annecy.

Do you have any questions about your packraft adventure in the complete Fier Gorges?

  • Is it possible to privatize a group?

Yes, it is of course possible to privatize an adventure. The price will be at least equivalent to the participation of 6 people. For a customized adventure, feel free to call our team, and they will be happy to assist you.

  • Does the team speak a foreign language?

Yes. Most of our guides speak English. Some also speak Spanish. All English-speaking individuals or those who understand English well enough to follow safety instructions are welcome in our adventures.

  • Can I choose between a single or double packraft?

We have both single and double packrafts available. However, the choice of the type of packraft depends on the adventure and the stock available. For specific requests, feel free to contact us.

  • What are the different types of physical levels?
    • Level 1 / Introduction: I'm discovering a new activity.
No special training or fitness level is required for this level, as long as you are in good health. Do you want to try packrafting and learn the basics of this new activity in a natural and peaceful setting without exerting too much physical effort?
    • Level 2 / Dynamic: I venture off the beaten path.
You are energetic and enjoy sports in general. You are capable of sustaining physical effort for up to 5-6 hours per day. You want to explore unusual places to get away from touristy spots and the familiar, all in a natural environment.
    • Level 3 / Engaged: I commit to an extraordinary expedition!
Reserved for good athletes who regularly engage in endurance sports (at least twice a week). You can endure physical effort for up to 7-8 hours a day. Experienced in outdoor sports, though not necessarily autonomous or specialized, you’re excited about camping in isolated and exceptional locations (help with setting up camp will be required). You want to seek nature and adventure in unique, hard-to-reach places. Unpredictable weather conditions don’t deter you. You are eager for an intense experience that can challenge your limits and push you out of your comfort zone.
    • Level 4 / Expert: I explore unknown lands!
Reserved for experienced athletes who engage in intense endurance sports (more than 3 times a week). Portages can reach 20kg, and the physical activity duration can extend to 12 hours per day. Adventurers used to outdoor expeditions, possessing strong motivation and resilience. Progression in isolated environments that may become very demanding if weather conditions become extreme. Geographical isolation means that rescue options are limited. These are ambitious projects where the achievement of the goal and the safety of the group depend on each individual’s commitment. A strong sense of solidarity is required!
  • What are the different levels of technical skills?
    • Level 1: I am a "Beginner!" I have never touched a paddle.
    • Level 2: I am "Intermediate!" I can go straight, turn, stop, and generally control my kayak or packraft. I have already navigated on a class 2 river (light current, small waves).
    • Level 3: I am "Advanced!" I navigate with ease in class 2/3. I have complete control over my craft in this type of river. I can help set up collective safety for a technical passage.
    • Level 4: I am an "Expert!" I navigate in class 3/4. I know how to roll, I can read a river, and I can set up safety for a technical passage.

  • Is it necessary to know how to swim?

Knowing how to swim is an absolutely mandatory prerequisite.

  • Will my shoes go in the water?

Yes, the shoes will go in the water. It is important to note that for safety reasons, shoes are mandatory during all our adventures.

  • What type of shoes do I need?

A pair of sneakers with soles, such as sports shoes, is required.

  • What do we do in case of bad weather?

Safety is our priority! Even if the weather is not ideal (rain, wind, clouds, etc.), the adventure will proceed as long as the participants' safety is not at risk. If the weather conditions are problematic along the route, the guide may implement an alternative itinerary to avoid endangering the group.
If no alternative route can be set up, the adventure will be canceled.
